My own domain

Well, I finally decided to get it. My blog is hosted on http://www.naveenroy.com now. Looking good. Though I don't want to go through the hassle of getting space and moving my blog somewhere etc. As it is, I have some tweaking to be done already.

Garage Storage

This is going to be a series of posts on some amazing stuff that you can get for your own garage - if you have one. To all you Tim Allens out there, there is this really cool garage storage for keeping all your toolsets safe and in an ordered manner. There are various types and sizes and you can even get just a work-bench!. Great stuff.

Gilmour and Pink Floyd

Rolling Stone has an amazing interview with David Gilmour who has just released the DVD "Remember that Night - Live from the Royal Albert Hall". In it, he discusses about the new releases, Pink Floyd and Roger Waters. Kinda sad to see him say these lines - "What I’ve been doing for the last couple of years — what I was in the middle of when Live 8 came along — was my album, and that’s what I’m thinking about. It’s been a joy and very satisfying, and the album did very well, even though Rolling Stone only gave it two stars. Everything went so well, I can’t see why I would want to be going back to that old thing. It’s very retrogressive. I want to look forward, and looking back isn’t my joy. Roger hasn’t written a lyric lately that has really been something where I’ve gone, “Wow, I wish that was part of my oeuvre.” I don’t know how one puts it, but going back into all that just wouldn’t bring me joy. It’s my time of life to be selfish — please myself."

So there's no chance that Pink Floyd are getting back again....damn!!!

Read the complete interview here....

Simons new domain

Simon, who has been blogging for some time now, has finally bought his own domain. Eggburji it is!! His blog is being hosted there at the moment, but I am sure he will be buying space etc in the near future. Rock on dude...

This has inspired me to also get a domain of my own...lets see how that goes...

Metal : A Pick Of Destiny

(Devilish laughter in background)

....what fucking awesome movies!!. If you are a true rock/metal fan, you gotta watch "A Pick Of Destiny" and "Metal : A Headbanger's Journey". While the first one is more comedic and good fun, the second one is all in-your-face truth about the metal culture.

Tenacious D star in APOD as themselves and its really good fun. I enjoyed the part where JB gets high on some mushrooms and trips like mad!! The best parts are where Dio comes to him in a vision after he is locked in his room as a kid!. And the scenes with the sasquatch!! Hahaha..

Dave Grohl is also in the movie - as Satan. Great acting I should say.

A more in your face movie about Metal is "Metal : A Headbanger's Journey". An incredibly awesome movie, the only thing I would have loved would for the movie to have been longer, much longer. Like say, 10 hours or so....interviewing more bands!. Its really a great documentary done by Sam Dunn meeting a cross section of metal-stars, both young and old. One of the most interesting parts was where he meets Dio in his house! I love the interview with Bruce Dickinson too.

Hehe, heres what Bruce had to say about metal - "It really gets inside the mind of a 15 year old. If you ever lose that 15 year old kid inside of you, then it won't make any sense at all!. And then people will start saying - 'Cough!, Cough, That was just a part of my life I'm really embarrassed about y'know. Those stupid trousers and long hair.' People are ashamed of what they were when they were young!!."

Sam Dunn ends the documentary at a concert, surrounded by other metal fans with these words - "Ever since I was 12 years old, I've had to defend my love for metal from those who said its a less valid form of music. My answer now is - you either feel it or you don't!. If metal doesn't give you that overwhelming sense of power or make the hairs at the back of your neck stand up, you might never get it. And you know what, that is ok!. Cause judging by the 40,000 other metal fans around me, we're doing just fine without YOU!."

I hereby...

"I hereby decree that from this day hence, Intelligent Design and the Lord Of the Rings will be the subject in all classes and all schools in India. There is no need for any other type of learning."

Amen.

Hehe, by the way this is going, our kids might learn that Hobbits did indeed exist and the earth was saved by the destruction of the One Ring!.

Sarcasm anyone?

McLaren fined...drivers let off

Ok! I really dont know why Alonso was let off!!. There is evidence to show that the drivers were aware of what was going on. I cannot see why Ron Dennis was let off too!! Damn, the drivers did gain from the knowledge that was leaked out, so why not cut their points off too! Should have banned McLaren from the rest of the season too!!

Thank god there is one british paper out there that takes a balanced view of things.

Original links from Prabhu n Ferarri.

And the Belgium grand prix went off well. A Ferrari 1 2!! And Alonso, you are one sore loser! Watch the video on how he pushed Hamilton off track. Same team, as far as I remember!

Have a feeling that this guy will be champion. If not this year, then later! Hats off!!

Sethusamudram Project

Yeah, the government screwed up. The ASI did not screw up!. There is no bridge. Ok, whatever is left of it is not visible. Can someone show me the exact details of the bridge? I might believe then!. Ok, so what if there was a bridge. Like someone somewhere said, we should not dredge the area cause all that money is gonna go into the Congress' pockets and rest to the DMK. I am scared that some other political party is gonna whip the people into a frenzy with this as a chance and get back into power!.

Everyone seems to support the "political parties" on this one. Thanks Higgien for making me look at it from a different point of view!

Leave the place alone, political party or no political party.

And for your information, I don't believe in the miracles or the ascension and all that either!!.

DogmaTone records

Yes, I am sure that none of you have heard of this record label. Simply 'cause there is no metal/rock scene in India!! But that what you dumb fucks think. There is an amazingly large crowd out there that listens to the above mentioned genre of music. Well, DogmaTone records is a record company whose sole aim is to promote rock and rock artists in India. They let you ask yourself - "An obvious and casually ignored question: Why is there no market for musical genre called Metal in India, or for that matter, Rock Music?
  • The reason is simple and it is nothing but lack of awareness. People are too numb to realize the quality of such patterns in music. We do not blame anybody but If you don't listen, then we are sure that you guys are missing something. There is definitely a lot of talent in the Indian Underground, waiting to be unleashed. DogmaTone will be the channel for these musical underdogs to latch onto."
Damn, they go on to say that "DogmaTone will handle the financials provided the music is full of passion and is ROCK!!". Woohoo....up the irons!!

I love this company already. You can visit their site here...

Water wars and a dam!

Damn! (pardon the pun). You must be aware of the frequent "wars" that break out on either side of the Tamilnadu-Kerala border regarding the Mullaiperiyar dam. Politicians, tamil poets, Tamilians, Malayalees all get their tempers raised at this time and even the common man is not left alone with the media on both sides fanning the flames. But did you know that this dam was not even built by a government and that it was financed by a britisher who wanted to help out the people living in the cauvery basin? I came across this bit of information from Jacinth who had heard someone mention it on TV. More googling and I came across information mentioning that when the funds dried up for this british engineer and the government stopped funding the dam project, he found the plight of the people hard to take and went back to England to drum up some support. I even read that he sold his property and brought back what he could to finish the dam. And finish he did!! And alleviated the sufferings of the locals.

"Greater than the mother bearing child
Greater than the child that is born
Every breath is Periyar
Every word is Periyar
In every place, in all the world
As far as Periyar water flows
Your name will stand-Pennycuick-your name
Though written on water, will always stand."

That is how Anthony Muthu Pillai (1863-1929) had paid tributes in Tamil to John Pennycuick, the engineer who had taken up the "audacious and unprecedented feat of...engineering" for transferring some water from the Periyar river in Travancore State to the Vaigai basin in Madras Presidency. This basin was described by Poet Vairamuthu, who hails from this area: "It is a different world. Another planet on the surface of the earth. Ignored by the clouds, cursed by nature and dry land, passed by the Gods with their eyes tightly shut..."

That last part was from Wikipedias entry on the Vaigai Basin.

Damn, we don't even actually own the damned dam!

Nadsat and A Clockwork Orange

I was watching A Clockwork Orange over the weekend. What an insane movie!!. It was directed by Stanley Kubrick of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb fame. He's also directed such cult classics as The Shining and Full Metal Jacket. Damn, the movie is so captivating and disturbing that it made me think twice. More on that on another post. Meanwhile, in the movie, the characters speak in a lingo amongst themselves. Wikipedia tells me that this is called Nasdat. Damn, there is a whole article about it. So I tried my hand on it too. See if you can decipher it.

I don't think I have to make an Appy polly loggy at all. There is no need to. I just went to to the Biblio to get a book and saw this devotchka. So we went out to have a firegold. She looked kinda bugatty also. Off we went to the local peeta and she offered me a cancer. I declined as I do not want to have cancer through cancer. Her name, she said was Olga. I am sure you all know about russian cheenas. Hehe, since you know about them, let me continue. Olga called her droog too!. But her droog looked like her 'em. They both wanted to filly. I fillyed for raz. Ordered a forella and tried to hide my boredom by hiding behind the gazetta. The em gave me the glazz. Collocol rose up my gorlo. I felt so grazhny to govoreet to her. Her groody was rising up. I knew they wanted to filly. The old in-out-in-out. Olga started lapa. But I wanted to be lubbilubbing alone!. Her mum looked more like a malchick!. Seeing it yeckate, I took out my nozh and used it to oobivat them both!.

Iron Maiden coming back!!

Hehe...(rubbing hands in glee). Iron Maiden is coming back again to India!!. Though this might be sometime next year, MTV's Headbanger's blog mentions that this time, they will be playing all their older material. Steve Harris mentions about playing songs from their latest album - "We thought we needed the challenge and it proved the right thing to do. However, it can be hard on the fans playing so much new material. So now l guess it’s payback time". Hell, I love this kind of a payback!!! Looking forward to the real Iron Maiden now!!!.

Damn, the tour is appropriately named - "Somewhere Back In Time". Fucking hell!!!

Saw IV

Damn I love the Saw movie series. So all you lovers of this series of flicks, you'll be happy to know that Saw IV is gonna be out soon. Check out the trailer here....

Google Reader new feature

Until yesterday, when there are more than 100 unread items in Google Reader, it used to show it as All Items (100+). But good that they have changed that now to show the accurate no of unread items. Now it shows as All Items (345). Was looking for this feature change for a long time and had even written to Google about it.
