IT

I am reading this book by Stephen King called IT. Its an amazing book, pretty much slow moving but interesting nonetheless. To tell you the truth, it is so interesting that I even read it when coming by cab to office and there is a pretty gal sitting next to me. Hmmm, its that interesting!! Damn you Stephen King!

Anyway, there is this interesting concept in there - the placebo effect. Its got quite a quaint name to it, kinda corny too, but interesting. To know more about it, click here. And why I kept reading this book even in the cab was there was this very interesting part where Eddie Kaspbrak for the first time, breaks away from his protective mothers grasp. You can read this part in the pages 756 - 765. Interesting read...

Its great....

Indianapolis - no race or great race??

Well, the Formula1 race that was held in Indianapolis turned out to be a no-show. Or thats what everyone else said!! I for one, enjoyed the race immensely though I would have loved to see some great racing on one of the fastest tracks on the F1 circuit!!

The official version here.....

Michelin screwed up!! Plain and simple. What else can be said? I really cannot see the race from their point of view. Though I can understand that the other teams that ran on Michelin were concerned for their drivers' safety and didn't want them to race on those tyres. Especially after Ralf's crash and Zontas problem too. But otherwise, I'd say that it is completely Michelins fault. And there is also nothing wrong that Ferrari decided to go ahead with the race. I mean, here they are, just starting to come good on their car and get their tyres to start performing and they are asked to run at a disadvantage or even worse, sit out the race with the rest of them. And I believe the others would have had a fight on their hands with Ferrari in this state. Even though the race seemed one-sided after that, it was good to see Narain Karthikeyan race well and also the fight between Barichello and Schumi. Though I would say that one of these days, Schumi is gonna get it bigtime from Barichello. Or he will move to a different team that will take better care of him.

The only people I felt bad about was the spectators and the drivers who felt like racing, but could not due to team orders and others like Barichello, who wanted to take a stand with the other drivers but could not - again due to team orders. All in all, a pretty bad day for the sport but a good one for me. And a record of sorts to top it up - it was the first race in decades where all the starters finished!

Though I really wish Narain had finished on the podium. Please try and give him a better car, Jordan!!

A refreshing bit o' news!

This is about the Mayor of Seattle whos managed to get 300 other mayors also to agree that it will be great for US cities to meet or beat the Kyoto Protocol targets!!

For more information on the Kyoto Protocol - read the information on Wikipedia

This was such a refreshing bit of news what with the world going down the drain with no concerns on the environment, cause after all, we are the ones that live here mate!!

We will be leaving the earth for our future generations if we dont blast it up first!!

To read about this mayor who had the guts to take on his own country (which incidentally has not signed the Kyoto Protocol) please read here...

Zombie!! Heres to you!

L K Advani resigning as the BJP president has caused quite a stir in political circles and quite a riot in our room.....

Last night, me and Anwin left for home quite late from office and our other friends were there, quite drunk..

We sit down and watch TV, surf channels and there comes this flash saying that Advani had resigned as the president - president of the BJP.....me and Anwin discuss this and have a laugh about why he actually resigned - over the cry that was made when he declared Jinnah a "secular" man!!!

All this aside, Zombie, whos watching all this with all the concentration he can muster, suddenly blurts out - "Man, it is said that even the president does not know what he will be speaking about! It is is speech writer to blame. Just think, the president saying something like this!!"

We were lost there...president of the BJP, yes....but president as for the country?? We start laffin....and later we find out....Zombie thought he was resigning as the president of the country!! And also that none of us really know who the president of the country is!!!

BRAAAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZIIIIIILLL!!!!

Brazils President doesnt care to hear Bill Gates' pitch!!!

That was an amazing post on http://boingboing.net/...I was so damn happy to read.....at the end of a dreadful day when you feel your whole day at work has been dreadful and mindlessly numbing, you read a post like that and it make you wanna cry with happiness and relief!! Now, I wish some more people in some other countries would have the guts to follow the same thing....

Brazil is wiring up its favelas (shantytowns) using free software and recycled hardware, turning GNU/Linux into a serious force for sustainable development. Bill Gates is so freaked out by this that he's tried, unsuccessfully, to book a meeting with the President of Brazil, who turned him down.

Cute??? A word to be banned!!

Damn, the word 'cute' makes me want to puke sometimes.....I hate the word so much that sometimes I start cursing people who use it...

"Oooh, so cooooute"...

"Oooh, that kitten (hmm) is so coooooute"

"Ooooh, that guy is so heavenly and coooooute"

Goddamn, all these lines and other lines with cute in it make me sick....especially the last line...I mean, how can a guy or anything for that matter be cute.....I say damn the word, take it off the dictionary. I am sure that there are a number of people who would agree with me on this, infact, I came across this post on this link

I also finish with nearly the same line.....I would rather be dead than cute!!!!

Duck and Cover time

Well, I read this article on AlterNet, called Duck and Cover time....

It is about Senfronia Thompson, a black representative from Houston who walked to the floor of the house and talked about the government and other things.....

What she said about Christianity....""Members, I'm a Christian and a proud Christian. I read the good book and do my best to live by it. I have never read the verse where it says, 'Gay people can't marry.' I have never read the verse where it says, 'Thou shalt discriminate against those not like me.' I have never read the verse where it says, 'Let's base our public policy on hate and fear and discrimination.' Christianity to me is love and hope and faith and forgiveness -- not hate and discrimination."

Well, thought for the day...read the entire aritcle here....

Dad in hospi

But I had gone home cause dad had a stone removal operation...the operation went well and dad is back home, happy and healthy...good for you dad!!

Nothing else to add except that the days in Nagercoil were kinda hectic what with running around to the hospital, eating outside, getting back home to sleep and watch TV. Missed my moms cooking, hope to make up for it sometime...

I am back now in Bangalore, at work....
