Yellow Roses Part I

Spring....so eternal, so beautiful was in the air!! It was the time for men to just start breaking all their new year resolutions but not so much that you start regretting it. This is the season for all things new - even broken resolutions.

Yellow, the color of new beginnings and a shiny new taxi. Being a cab-driver in the city of New York is sort of a drag. But all that did not bother me. I am new to this city, but I know all the locations pretty well. After all, you cannot afford to lose customers by saying that you do not know a particular part of the city! Felix would have been a better name for a cat, I had thought so many times in the past, but well, you learn to live with your name.

Life started anew for me from the day I lost my folks to that lunatic, drunk driver who mowed them down back in my hometown. Moving to a strange new city with no knowledge of the people was scary in the beginning...but I have got over all that. Not all the people are nice, even the Indians, but I have learnt to live with it. There have been very good people wherever I have turned and they have made me get this far. I have also to mention my lovely girl, Fiona. Yeah, a very nice sounding name. And maybe you all think that thats not an Indian name, well, it isnt but she is Indian. Her folks moved in here a long time back and are doing well here with her dad running a small mom and pop store on the corner of 84th street.

Its good that they are not stuck-up people like people back there when it comes to a guy and gal. They never did find it odd that a "taxi driver" can fall in love with their beautiful daughter and give her happiness. They did treat me with a little off-handed courtesy but still, it was just out of habit than anything else and never did stop us from going out together and recently, even staying together. Her beautiful eyes, long, black hair and a long drive in my car...well, seems like I am veering a little off the topic here.

I wanted to just talk about a strange incident that happened a little while ago. It was a day close to the dreaded Valentines day and I thought I had to buy Fiona something. You know these women, they act all coy and say that you need not buy them anything, but they do actually expect you to buy something for them. And when you do, well, they can take you to seventh heaven. Hmmm.... Anyway, I was already absorbed in getting my first catch of the day when I see this really well dressed guy walking on the pavement. He seemed like he was going somewhere in a real hurry. What other person could fit in my version of the "catch of the day"? I gave chase, asking him if he wanted a ride. He gave me a half sloppy smile and waved me away, preoccupied with something else.

He was positively radiant, beaming, with all the world to see that he was in love. Do I look like that sometimes when I go to meet Fiona, I sheepishly thought. Running on the pavement quite close to me, he approached an old man selling flowers. There were some really fresh looking red roses, all ready for the picking, but he asked the old man for some yellow roses. Yellow?, and I am sure that he was taking them for his girl. Who would want yellow roses? Each to his own, my mind quickly decided and made me ask him once again if he wanted to go somewhere fast.

But the old man would not let him take those roses. Damn you old man, I said inside. "Mister, why would you ever want to take these sad looking roses? Here are some red roses, all packed and fresh!", said the old man. Out shot the dreamy looking guy, "No old man, my apologies. I would love those red roses, but my girl, Fiona, she loves them yellow roses only". Fiona!, I thought. Did that sound like a name from somewhere? But my mind would not let me dwell on these small things. It kept screaming that I had made no money all day and I was to concentrate on the job at hand. So I walk up to the confusion and said out aloud, "Let him have what he wants, old man. I guess he knows best!". The old man gave me a really wierd look like he had heard a voice from some other realm and actually looked past me. Fear gripped me like a vice and images of beatings by neo-nazis and jackboots gripped me.

Storytime...

I was reading a book and got inspired to write a short story. Let me make this clear. I am not that good a writer, the story is kinda loony and my thoughts are even more so. I think my more illustrious friend, FlamingCyanide is better at this sort of thing. But well, I did want to write and I have finished the story already. I will be posting at as 3 parts. Hope it keeps you hooked enough to read it....happy reading.

Prince of Darkness

My victims are rich or poor, young or old, strong or weak
I cause millions of accidents, I am cancer in your bones
I fathered the lie, twist what you say, speak not the truth
I am insidious, impartial, deep inside your chromosomes

I take what you love, and leave you in tears
I imprison your soul, your hopes are my games
I strip you of pride, my promise is in vain
While you burn at the stake I dance with the flames

I bring poverty, sickness and death
A worthless handshake, the slickest thief, I steal your wealth
I answer your prayers for greed and lust
More than evil, I laugh at your trust

I am more powerful than all the armies of the world
I am more violent than violence, more deadly than death
I have destroyed more men than all the nation’s wars
I am relentless, unpredictable, waiting for your last breath

Evil, more evil than violence
Violent, more violent than death
Deadly, more deadly than man
I am yeah, yeah, I’m evil I am

My kingdom corrupt with dissent
Your sins erupt by my intent
I loathe your prayer, I wallow in sin
Let the nightmare begin
Prince of darkness, your satanic highness
Prince of darkness, the devilish serpent, the dreaded lucifer
Prince of darkness

I take what you love, and leave you in tears
Imprison your soul, your hopes are my games
I strip you of pride, my promise is in vain
While you burn at the stake I dance with the flames

Hoyt Axton..

Contemplating mankind's purpose turns people like me into pseudo-philosophers. I feel that life is simply a matter of one foot in front of the other and down the road we go ... This music is my wish of life abundant and bright, full of joy to you and those for whom you care.

Well, I am making a small come-back. I was inspired by a songwriter, Hoyt Axton. He had penned some of the most legendary songs of the Rock band, Steppenwolf. There is this one song called "Snowblind Friend"...

You say it was this morning when you last saw your good friend
Lyin' on the pavement with a misery on his brain
Stoned on some new potion he found upon the wall
Of some unholy bathroom in some ungodly hall
He only had a dollar to live on 'til next Monday
But he spent it on some comfort for his mind
Did you say you think he's blind?

Someone should call his parents, a sister or a brother
And they'll come to take him back home on a bus
But he'll always be a problem to his poor and puzzled mother
Yeah he'll always be another one of us
He said he wanted Heaven but prayin' was too slow
So he bought a one way ticket on an airline made of snow
Did you say you saw your good friend flyin' low?
Flyin' low
Dyin' slow

Thats an amazing song, even better when listened to...

Till I am inspired again...

A Web-Fire Escape!!

Check out this link that I came across a site the other day. It is called a web-fire escape. It works the same way like a fire-escape, except that your boss is the fire at the office. When you are reading my interesting blog, all you have to do to go to google is to click on the green button here...

Reading blogs at work? Click to escape to a suitable site!

The Mark Knopfler concert

Me and my friends had gone to the Mark Knopfler concert on Monday...though we had to actually get half a days leave for that and also that we missed the beginning of the concert, it was pretty good fun. Usually, all these concerts take a lot of time to begin and we all went a little late hoping that that would be the case. But wonder of wonders, the concert did start off on time and we missed the opening numbers. The concert was pretty ok.

But then was when the fun started. We all went off to our house and started partying. It was such good fun that we slept at 6 in the morning. Also, we did learn a new technique - a near death experience one should say - that was named "Hyper". More on that at a later date!

So thats that...

The fastest Indian on the Planet

The Formula 1 Season for this year has begun.

Even though I have not been able to view the qualifying rounds, I have read that this is not a very good start for Narain Karthikeyan, what with him being fined around $6500 for leaving the pit-lane at speeds exceeding the limit. Hope that was just a case of over-enthusiasm and that he will settle down for a good performance all through the year.

Narain

Racing a car is always an amazing experience, and to think that an Indian can take part in the world's fastest circuit makes us proud. Dude, hats off to you for persevering through all this...and wish I was in your shoes...

Good luck.

One grand reunion!!

Seems like some time since i posted on this page....

I have been quite busy at work and do not get time to do these things which were so easy before. I had loads of time before at work what with no responsibilities and nothing much to do, but now, for some days, I have been actually working - unbelievable!!

Works good, but even better was the last weekend. Anand and Renie drove down all the way from Chennai and reached here on Friday night. Also, Anoop turned up on that night. Though we did not get to meet them that day, what with all the late night shifts and all, we did get to meet them the next day. Also, Gerald turned up on Saturday morning and we all went to meet Anand and Renie on Saturday evening. Also Manu, the Dark Lord arrived without fanfare in the evening. It was one grand reunion.

Finally, we all settled in for beers at TGIF. This is one lunatic, all-american pub here in Bangalore that reeks of Americanism, but that was not the issue. We all had a blast there at that time!! The beer kept flowing and we were all making "future" plans. It was at this time that we all decided on somethings to do for Anands wedding time. We all have decided on a bachelors party before Anands wedding, where each one of us has a theme. Well, leave the rest to your imagination, but please guys, do remember what your themes were!!

We then left for home to start of all over again. Whoever thought that a game of Dumb Charades could be so interesting! Damn!!! We all stayed up till the morning light, and like vampires, went of to sleep at the first sight of dawn. Corny I know...

It was good fun and I have some great fotos to prove it...will be putting them up....till later...
